Reliability Testing & Code Testing
Any loss or breakdown will result in physical damage and that could include business interruption at a facility. When was the last time proper testing or imaging was completed ? Electrical fire, mechanical breakdown or structural integrity damage to steel or cables in the structural envelope all could involve code compliance and code issues.
Identification of the Hazard or Key Part
The single piece of equipment having the greatest potential impact on any facility would be the breakdown or failure of that key part or impact of structural envelope integrity.
Infrared image testing and scanning should be performed annually as per National Fire Code N.F.P.A. 70B to identify hot spots in electrical system equipment. These annual National Fire Code reports should be compiled to provide system integrity and reliability testing documentation for future review.
Electrical System Infared Imaging
Infrared Thermography is an ideal testing technique for imaging electrical equipment and systems for reliability and locating defective of fatigued electrical components. Normal wear, chemical contamination, corrosion, fatigue and faulty installation may lower the conductivity and raise the component electrical resistance level. As per Ohms Law, this will cause an increase in temperature of the component and will result in a short unexpected life cycle.
Annual or as needed infrared imaging of electrical components is a valuable predictive maintenance tool. As per National Fire Code, early corrective action using this technology may be used to prevent fire, costly breakdowns, electrical hazards or difficult incidents to explain.
HAZARD: Main Beaker Switch - Poor "C" phase connection.
HAZARD: Breaker Panel - Unsatisfactory connections at breakers.
Electrical System Infared Imaging
HAZARD: Main Substation - Poor bus bar connection.
HAZARD: Contactor - Poor connection and /or contact surface.
HAZARD: Fused Disconnect - Poor clip connection 1st phase fuse "A" Phase
Specialized Applications Testing
Infrared Imaging can detect problems caused by overheating,
Or lack of heat on a variety of equipment or processes.
There are many potentially serious problems with equipment and facilities which give early warnings of their existence in the form of thermal differences or possibly "Hot Spots". Unfortunately, these thermal early warning signs often go undetected until it's too late.
Infrared thermal imaging can find these "Hot Spots" before they become serious. The testing and inspection is safe. Also image testing requires no interruption of normal operations.
